| オレゴン州ポートランドでウエイトレスをしているジル・コンウエイは、閑静な住宅街の一軒家に大学生の妹モリーと一緒に住んでいた。ある日、彼女が夜間の勤務を終えて自宅に戻ると、モリーの姿がなかった。大学の最終試験を控えて猛勉強をしていた彼女が、メモ一つ残さず家からいなくなるはずはない。しかも車も家の前に置かれたままだ。不安になった彼女はモリーのボーイフレンドに電話をするが、彼も知らないという。しかも重要な試験に姿を現さなかったというのである。
かつて連続殺人鬼に誘拐され、森の中に掘られた穴倉に監禁されていたおぞましい経験を持つ彼女は、直ちに警察に出向いて、例の犯人に違いないと訴える。警察は彼女の言う男の存在も、彼女が主張する犯罪を示す証拠も得られなかったことから、彼女の話に全く耳を傾けようとしない。それどころか、彼女が両親の死後、しばらく精神病院に入っていたことから、彼女の話を単なる空想として片付け、追い返すのだ….
このサスペンススリラーでメガホンを握ったのは『尻に憑かれた男』(O Cheiro do Ralo, 2006)のブラジル人監督エイトール・ダリア(Heitor Dhalia,1970 - ) 。妄想だとして一蹴する警察の冷たい態度に絶望し、危険を冒して一人で妹の捜索に乗り出す主人公ジルを熱演するのは『ジュリエットからの手紙』(Letters to Juliet, 2010)、『赤ずきん』(Red Riding Hood, 2011)などで知られるアマンダ・セイフリッド(Amanda Michelle Seyfried, 1985 - )である。
