カナダ生まれ。
今もハード・ロック系ソングライターとして活躍する
Jim Valanceとともに、作曲家活動をスタートし
1978年に、ミュージシャンとしてデビューを果たす。
デビュー作はパッとしなかったものの、
1983年、『Cuts Like a Knife』でブレイク。
続く『Reckless』はアメリカだけで500万枚以上を
売り上げたアルバムとなった。
シンプルなアメリカンロックと、適度にしゃがれた声が魅力で
"Heaven"を筆頭に"Run to You""Summer of '69"
"It's Only Love"などなど、捨て曲がひとつもない名盤。
1987年、『Into The Fire』をリリースしたが
それまでと違ったシリアスな曲調がウケず、
しばらく勢いを落としてしまう時期となってしまった。
このころ、彼はイメージの一新を図る。
これまでずっとチームを組んできたJimと別れ、
新たにDef Leppardのプロデューサーとして名高い
Robert John "Mutt" Langeを迎え、活動を再開。
また、映画音楽に乗り出すことを決意し
ケヴィン・コスナー主演『ロビン・フッド』の主題歌として
"(Everything I Do) I Do It for You"を提供。
これが超特大ヒット！
イギリスでは、シングルチャート15週連続No.1という
未だに破られていない記録を樹立。
アルバム『Waking Up The Neighbours』とともに
華々しく第一線へと返り咲いたのだった。
1990年代以降は、活動の拠点をイギリスに移し
アメリカンロックだけにこだわらない音楽活動を続ける。
写真家としても有名になった。
そして、数々の映画に曲を提供、
バラードを歌わせれば世界一！な地位を確固たるものとした。
ブライアン・アダムスは
今でこそ、当時の勢いはないものの、
1980年代から90年代前半まで
世界で最も活躍したロック・アーティストのひとりであり、
