If you stay in Sapporo, there are many crab restaurants in Sapporo. Some of them serve full course of crab. Also there are many IZAKAYA. IZAKAYA is a Japanese style bar, they serve snacks to accompany your drinks. And many IZAKAYA also serve food using crabs.

Especially you can choose IZAKAYA which deals with seafood, if you like seafood.

In the specialty restaurant of crab, you eat every kind of dishes of crab. (Soup, flied, grilled, sashimi, sushi, etc.)

If you stay in the particularly local place of crab, it would be easy to ask to the accommodation where you stay.

I think that it seems to be difficult to find a good restaurant for crab in country side. Many accommodations in the place of crab (like Esashi, Abashiri, etc) have package plans that serve dinner & breakfast. You can choose the plan including crab.

What kinds of crabs?

King crab "Taraba Gani"
The most filling crab in Hokkaido.
Commonly we eat boiled crab or grilled crab.
Especially crab legs are good parts to eat.
If you succeed to take a whole filling of crab away from its legs, you would feel supreme time!
Hair crab "Ke Gani"
The strongest taste crab in Hokkaido.
It is difficult to take its filling away from crab shell. But it is worth to do it by yourself, because the taste is so delicious. You wouldn't want to give someone the crab meat you did.
The internal organs of hair crab is also so delicious and valuable. It is called "kani miso".
Put a soy sauce in "kani miso", it go well with rice. Or put Japanese sake in "kani miso" (the crab shell become bowl), and grill it. You can drink Japanese sake with crab flavor.
Snow crab "Zuwai Gani"
It is called "queen of the winter taste".
In winter, we eat snow crab with hot-pot, at the end of the hot-pot, put rice in the hot-pot, then we eat it, "zousui". "Zou-sui" is a kind of porridge.
Also, one of the dishes which we want to eat once is sashimi of snow crab. Put meat of snow crab leg in cold water. The meat of snow leg shape changes, it looks like flower. You can enjoy it with the sight, of course the taste is good as well.
"Hanasaki Gani"
Personally, it is the most recommended crab in Hokkaido. Those legs are thick, and it is easy to take the filling away from the shell. The tastes is strong. The best thing is those roe (ovary and roe). It is very delicious.
We also eat this crab with miso soup, it is called "Teppou-ziru".
