IF-THEN METHOD - international version - [page 10]

ANALYSES OF RESPONSES
EXAMPLES FOR THE FUNDAMENTAL RESULTS
Let us show some examples of the results for the distribution of the social motive components based upon the "IF-THEN method". Figure 8 shows the results for a sample of undergraduate students from several countries, viz., Japan [1. Hokkaido University (human cultural course and medical course) and 2. Hokusei University (social welfare course)]. Korea [Yeungnam University (human cultural course)] U.S.A. [1. University of California (Santa Barbara, psychology course) and 2. University of Delaware (psychology course)] and the Netherlands [University of Groningen (information processing course)]. In the results contained in this figure, only the averages, with respect to each component in the dis- tribution of the nine social motive components for the several groups of subjects are indicated. Even from only these results, we can find some interesting differences among the distributions of the social motive components for the subjects belonging to the different groups. These are only the exam- ples based on preliminary analyses of the data. It would be possible to derive various hypotheses by investigating these results in detail, though we refrain now from a discussion of the psychological meanings involved in these data.

* Only the data for the Japanese (1) are the results on the basis of the "IF-THEN method" (version 1.0) The procedure used in the version 1.0 is essentially the same to the "IF-THEN method" (version 2.1)
