Taking various images of the lunar phases is a good introduction to amateur astrophotography. From crescent to full moons it is easy to take their pictures, but after third quarter it becomes quite difficult because you have to stay up after midnight or get up before daybreak.
Imaging utility "RegiStax" brought drastic changes in amateur astrophotography (→https://www.astronomie.be/registax/). Blurred images taken with a 10 cm refracting telescope under bad seeing in the city (b) changes to not bad images (a) of Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars.
This mountain pass is famous for its high altitude and superb scenery. It is located at the central part of the Peruvian Andes between Lima and La Oroya. The photo was taken during my participation to the 1983 field campaign in Central Andes (Project Leader: Prof. Masaru Kono).
This crater, also called Barringer Crater, is located east of Flagstaff, Arizona, USA. Its diameter is about 1.2 km and at the rim it is easily seen that the strata was scraped out. The photo was taken in 1992 after my stay at University of California Santa Barbara for joint research with Prof. Michael Fuller.
Well exposed unconformity as a geological monument is located along State Circle road in Canberra, Australia. Camp Hill Sandstone (Middle Silurian) overlies State Circle Shale (Early Silurian). The photo was taken in 1987 during my stay at Bureau of Mineral Resources for joint research with Dr. Mart Idnurm.
Small icebergs are flowing out to a lagoon at the edge of Breidamerkurjokull Glacier in Iceland. This glacier is a southern part of the larger Vatnajokull Glacier. This spot is about 50 km west of Hofn and one of the best places to see in Iceland. The photo was taken during my participation to the 1993 Japan-Iceland field campaign in Iceland (Project Leaders: Profs. Masaru Kono and Leo Kristjansson).
This is not related to earth sciences, but shows a market square of a small tranquil town Kuchl in Austrian Alps. It is surrounded by superb landscapes 20 km south of Salzburg. The photo was taken in 1991 after my attendance at an international conference (IUGG) in Vienna, Austria.
