アメリカ・オレゴン州ポートランド生まれ。
14歳のときから作曲を始め、地元でHeatmiserというバンドを結成、
1993年に『Dead Air』でレコードデビューを果たす。
その後、ソロとなり数枚のアルバムを発表。
ほとんどが自宅のボロい設備で録音された
弾き語りだけの曲であるにもかかわらず、
メロディと声の素晴らしさが人々の注目を集めた。
映画監督であるガス・ヴァン・ザントもエリオットのファンの一人で
自分の映画でぜひ彼の曲を使いたい！と拝み倒し、
ついに『グッド・ウィル・ハンティング』で数曲の既存曲と
書き下ろしの"Miss Misery"を使うことができた。
そしてその"Miss Misery"は、
その年のアカデミー賞にもノミネートされ、
エリオットの注目度は
一気に世界レベルへと押し上げられたのだった。
これがきっかけで大レコード会社に移籍、
2枚のアルバムを発表し、2003年、ニューアルバムに向けて
レコーディングをしていた矢先、突然、自殺の訃報が届いた。
享年34歳だった。
ほんとに、ほんとに惜しい才能を失ってしまった…。 |
