1998年、ジェリー・カントレル(g.)とレイン・ステイリー(vo.,g.)を中心に
バンド結成し、1990年、シアトルからメジャーデビュー。
暗い歌詞と重くウネるヘヴィーな音でじわじわと人気を得る。
2ndアルバム『Dirt』でブレイク、
『Jar of Flies』ではアコースティックな一面も披露し
バンドとしての発展が期待されていたのだが、
この頃からレインのドラッグ常用が問題となり始める。
3rdアルバム発表後あたりから、徐々に活動が停滞するようになり、
MTV用のアンプラグド・ライブに参加するのもやっとの状態。
バンド活動ができないことから、ジェリーはソロアルバムを発表。
その後も、レインの状態は改善せず、
ついに2002年4月19日、シアトルの自宅にて
レインの変死体が発見されるに至った…。 |
