HIDANKYO's recent activities

HIDANKYO has been conducting the movement in which we aim to eliminate nuclear weapons and establish a state compensation for Atomic Bomb Victims toward the 21st centsury. (for short; the Nation-wide Movement toward the 21st century)

In the Movement we desire to inform the people of the world about actual circumstances of Atomic Bomb Victims through a half century and achieve "No More Hibakusha". We wish to develop this movement with the people of this country.

The Movement will be conducted until June 2000.

[The urgent issues in the Movement]

T. To make known the real picture of the A-bombing widely.

U. To promote the signature-collecting campaign for the National Diet.

V. To win Matsuya A-bomb Lawsuit.(Ms Matsuya is a Hibakusha of Nagasaki.)

W. To apply "Hibakusha Aid Law" for the Hibakusha abroad.

I. In order to make known the real picture of the A-bombing widely, we conduct activities as follows.

1. What every Hibakusha and organization can do


a) To tell children, grandchildren and family about own experience of A-bombing.
b) To make the real feature of A-bombing clear through a half century.
c) To make photo panels for A-bombing exhibition that HIDANKYO has planned. To prepare not only photographs and printed matters but also video tapes and recorded tapes.
d) To devise plans for memorial ceremony or meeting of every year so that people at large join them.
e) To tell all kinds of publication that HIDANKYO issued or edited.
f) To make the real feature known widely with publications of Hibakusha's experience, issued by public offices.


2. What Hibakusha conduct with supporters, residents and the people at large


a) To ask people widely for participating activities of handing Hibakusha's experience down.
b) To hold A-bombing exhibition cross-country tour.
c) To ask schools and offices for holding meetings so as to listen to Hibakusha's experiences.
d) To cooperate A-bombing exhibition cross-country tour, sponsored by Hiroshima-city and Hiroshima Peace Culture Center.
e) To call on that the state collects and keeps A-bombing materials and publications in the planned National memorial peace center for A-bomb Victims.


3. Appeal to the world (International activities)


a) To make real features of A-bombing clear to the world; sending delegates to nuclear possessing countries.
b) To accept requests from other countries to send delegates.
c) To promote solidarity with nuclear testing victims in the world.
d) To communicate with people inside and outside Japan by presenting HIDANKYO's activities and information through NIHONHIDANKYO Web site.

U. In order to fulfil to eliminate nuclear weapons and establish a state compensation for Atomic Bomb Victims, we promote the signature-collecting campaign for the National Diet and urgent improvement for the measures.

1. What we conduct to submit 10 million signatures of petitions for the National Diet


a) To hold conviction and clear point of view for promoting the signature-collecting campaign through making real features of A-bombing clear.
b) To strive for success in the signature-collecting campaign for which each local HIDANKYO decides the accomplishing number, considering the number of Hibakusha there.
c) To conduct activities with other cooperative organizations.
d) To collect signatures from Mayors and Chairpersons in support of the petition.
e) To petition for the Government and the Diet repeatedly, conducting intensive activities.
f) To make pamphlets that is useful for promoting the Movement and make it known widely.


2. We call on revision for "Hibakusha Aid Law" so that every bereaved family obtains the Special Funeral Money and simplification/ abolition of renewal procedure for the Medical Treatment Benefit.


a) To negotiate with the Government for achieving those demands.
b) To ask members of the Diet for endorsing signatures in support of revising the Law.
c) To collect demands so that all bereaved families obtain the Special Funeral Money.
d) To make demands clear that Hibakusha can receive the Medical Treatment Benefit with simplification / abolition of renewal procedure.
V. To thoroughly win the Nagasaki A-bomb Matsuya Lawsuit.
a) To ask people for supporting the lawsuit, appealing the significance of that; producing a drama of simulated court of justice.
b) To accomplish to collect 500 thousand signatures for demanding fair judgment at Fukuoka High Court.
c) To take measures in case of appealing to the Supreme Court.
W. To apply "Hibakusha Aid Law" for the Hibakusha abroad.
a) To demand that the Hibakusha abroad who hold the Hibakusha Health Note can obtain the Special Funeral Money at their place of residence.
b) To demand that the recipient of the Medical Treatment Benefit can continuously receive it.
c) To demand that the Hibakusha abroad can apply for the Medical Treatment Benefit by mail, through embassies or consulates.

X. Publicity activities


a) To make pamphlets in which anyone clearly understands the meaning of the Movement
by means of the form of Q and A.
b) To increase the number of regular subscribers for the monthly paper "Hidankyo" and
regularly inform the readers about the Movement.

Y. Finance

a) To raise contribution for success in the Nation-wide Movement.
b) To refund certain percentage of the contribution to local HIDANKYO.
