Hibakusha appealed at The World Court of Women Against War, for Peace
Toward a nuclear free 21st century
At the beginning of the 21st century, campaigns for the abolition of nuclear weapons, provision of state compensation and improvement of measures for the Hibakusha have been enthusiastically promoted by local Hibakusha organizations across Japan.
Hiroshima Prefectural Hidankyo issued a book (430 pages), put together its history. Gunma prefectural Hidankyo, Kanagawa prefectural Hidankyo also issued booklets.
Mie prefectural Hidankyo published a booklet with the members' testimonies of the atomic bombing last December. Mr. Shizuo Shimaoka, Director, says, "Speaking the experiences of the atomic bombing does not remain in the concrete on the spot but we can remain them in book form." 5,000 copies of the booklet will be purchased before long.
Toyukai (Tokyo local Hidankyo) and Tokyo Gensuikyo (Tokyo local council against A & H Bombs) discussed through their experiences how they can promote to hold A-bomb exhibitions more widely than ever.
Japan Consumers Cooperative Union has been conducting a campaign for sending Hidankyo produced photo panel set "The A-Bomb and Humanity" to 300 different cities in the world.
As of January 25, 936 photo sets were delivered in Japan and overseas.
