Millennium 2000 - Walikng the ways of Peace

Mr. Takamitsu Nakayama, member of the Representative Directors of Nihon Hidankyo, attended "Millennium 2000 - Walking the Ways of Peace" in Nevada from December 30, 1999 to January 2, 2000.
Mr. Nakayama took part in the event on behalf of Nihon Hidankyo, in response to the request of the Nevada Desert Experience.

Mr. Nakayama spoke to 500 participants at the plenary session about his experience of the atomic bombing on Nagasaki and had a workshop.
The participants walked to the Nevada Test Site, holding candles in the midnight of New Year's eve.
One participant said "Japanese delegation lighting the candle at the desert was a very moving moment for me".
"The A-Bomb and Humanity", Hidankyo produced photo panel set, was on display through the event.

Millennial message from Nihon Hidankyo

At the opening of the new millennium, Nihon Hidankyo sent millennial message for abolition of nuclear weapons to the heads of 70 countries.

The message was sent to 57 countries that proposed the resolution on elimination of nuclear weapons in the 54th session of the United Nations and 13 countries that voted against it.
In the message for the 57 countries, Hidankyo expressed its hearty welcome for the resolution and called on those countries to continuously take effective action for the urgent elimination of nuclear weapons.
For the 13 countries, Hidankyo denounced outrageous conduct of nuclear weapon states and urged to start the work for early conclusion of an international treaty totally banning and eliminating nuclear weapons.

Hidankyo also sent the message to the Prime Minister of the Japanese government.
