Protest the US subcritical nuclear test

The US government carried out its 6th subcritical nuclear test at Nevada Test Site on February 9.

As the 273rd Hidankyo Executive Board was being held on that day, all the members decided to send a protest letter to President Clinton in the name of the Board.

Hibakusha of Prefectural Hidankyo also took actions. Tokyo Prefectural Hidankyo sent a protest letter. In Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Hibakusha went on sit-ins at the Peace Memorial Parks in both the cities. In Fukuoka-city, western Japan, Hibakusha appealed to passersby at the city center, handing leaflets against the test.

Mr. Shuichi Idani, Hibakusha in Tottori-city, western Japan, has sent Hidankyo produced photo set The A-bomb and Humanity to friends in Russia, Canada, Lithuania, India and Britain, so far.

Recently, Mr. Idani has received a letter from his Russian friend;

"On December 25, 1998, Children against the Nuclear War, event of the Peace Action was held with two exhibitions of Peace Lanterns and the A-bomb and Humanities at the Exhibition Hall in Sochi. Many children and adults came to join in the event. More than 260 children involved in making the lanterns."
