ISS, AO-16, UO-22 using MixW

Feb 25, 2002
I could receive ISS digipeat signals with "MixW2 ver 203" using only
soundcard, not using TNC.

I set up MixW2 according to the helpful advice of G6LVB, Howard Long,
as follows.

 1. Download the MixW203 and extract the files to a clean directory

 2. Run the MixW2.exe program

 3. First time you run it you'll be asked for personal data -
enter Call, Name, QTH, Locator and any other details you choose.

 4. Configure -> Soundcard Settings, select the soundcard you use and
    check Full Duplex is selected

 5. Mode -> Packet, selects the packet mode

 6. Mode -> Mode Settings, General tab, select
"VHF 1200 baud (Standard, 1200/2200 Hz)" in the Modulator/demodulator type

 7. Mode -> Mode Settings, Parameters tab, select Enable Full Duplex

 8. Make sure Configure -> Disable Soundcard is NOT ticked

 9. I was able to decode immediately the received ISS data after mouse
left click of "Mode - Mode settings".

10. Experimental (I never got this bit to work) is the uplink.
Mode -> Mode Settings, Beacon/Monitor tab,
             -> Source call   [JE9PEL]
                Dest call [CQ]
                Digis [RS0ISS]
                Beacon text [Hello from JE9PEL]
                Enable Beacon

First time I could not see the received ISS data in MixW2, but I could
decode it immediately after mouse left click at "Mode - Mode settings".

I also succeeded to decode AO-16 PSK signal with MixW203 using only soundcard.

I received simultaneousely ISS digipeat signals using MixW203 and TNC.
Both of them showed a good rate of the returned signals.

Received with MixW203,

> JE9PEL/RS0ISS*>CQ>UI,R,F0:
> Hello, this is JE9PEL.
>
> JE9PEL/RS0ISS*>CQ>UI,R,F0:
> Hello, this is JE9PEL.
>
> RS0ISS>CQ>UI,R,F0:
> >ARISS - International Space Station

Received with TNC,

> JE9PEL>CQ,RS0ISS* [27-Feb-02 02:41:37z] <UI R>:Hello, this is JE9PEL.
> JE9PEL>CQ,RS0ISS* [27-Feb-02 02:43:57z] <UI R>:Hello, this is JE9PEL.
>
> RS0ISS>CQ [27-Feb-02 02:44:25z] <UI R>:
> >ARISS - International Space Station

Feb 28, 2002
I confirmed to be able to digipeat via "ARISS" besides "RS0ISS",
then the callsign from ISS was "RS0ISS" in either case.

> UNPROTO CQ VIA ARISS
> JE9PEL>CQ,RS0ISS* [28-Feb-02 01:42:06z] <UI R>:Hello !
> JE9PEL>CQ,RS0ISS* [28-Feb-02 01:42:21z] <UI R>:Hello !
> RS0ISS>CQ [28-Feb-02 01:42:23z] <UI R>:

And I understood that I could decode AO-16 PSK on MixW2 when a red
flag overlapped with a peak of PSK in the spectrum window of MixW2.

Also I could copy 9600bps signals from UO-22 using only soundcard,
not TNC.

I set up in MixW2 as follows,

 MixW2 - Mode - Packet
       - Mode - Mode Settings - VHF 9600 baud G3RUH
       - Configure - Soundcard settings - Samplerate 22050
