Scenery from the Parks

3. Regent's Park

Regent's Park in which there is Queen Mary's Gardens is a short walk from Madame Tussaud's and the Sherlock Holmes Museum.
Around this time of the year, from June to July, many roses are in magnificent bloom in Queen Mary's Gardens. Unfortunately, I haven't seen roses in June there, but I have seen those in July a few times. They were very very beautiful!
When I visited the park in March of this year, I found some chemical fertilizers on a bicycle trailer by the roadside. I think that we can enjoy seeing the wondeful scenery of a lot of roses every summer, because they are really well looked after. Upon seeing them, I thought that I have to see roses in June next time.

It was New Year's Eve many years ago when I visited Regent's Park for the first time.
After I decided to visit England one winter, I was looking at a guidebook on the train--to get ideas as to where we should go--. Suddenly, a middle-aged foreigner sitting next to me spoke to me in English. "Are you going to England?" He said that he was English and a headmaster of some English school along the Toyoko Line. He gave me some advice. Among it, the most valuable advice was that all the trains from London to every town in England don't run on New Year's Day. "I think that most shops in London will be closed., he added. Oh, no!
Until now, it is the only time that I have visited London from the end of the year to the New Year. Moreover, it was many years ago, so I don't know even now if the trains don't run on New Year's day, but it was clear that year ; so I should make a plan thinking that we can't get out of London.
"We'll spend our time in London on New Year's Eve and New Year's day.", I decided.
I looked over a guidebook and found out that the London Zoo would be open (Caution : Now it is closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's day)@I remembered that a senior worker said that she had quite enjoyed visiting the London Aoo.Therefore, I decided to go too.

left : a newborn chimpanpanzee. When I pressed the shutter of my camera without thinking, the flash lamp sparkled.
An old woman scowled at me and said, "You shouldn't have done that" I was really sorry.
middle : Elephants are stars in the zoo. Don't you agree? ; right : Penguins are pretty everywhere!

Long time has passed after that. When I walked in the front of London Zoo this year, I saw only a few people including a mother and child who entered the zoo and a woman who took shelter from the rain. More than ten years ago, I heard the news that the government decided to close the zoo, but Londoners were against the idea. Therefore, it remains open. However, I'm not sure that the zoo can continue, because it doesn't seem to attract many visitors.

The scenery near the Boating Lake. Some waterfowl are gathering there. I think that this place is the most beautiful among all the watersides in London's parks.

I found a squirre here too. I saw him near some roses. What was he digging for?
