Da: |
You sent for me, sir?
|
P: |
Let's have more talk, Data.
|
Da: |
Yes, sir.
|
P: |
Sit down.
|
Da: |
What level of communication, sir?
|
P: |
Any. My apology is for saying you bubbled.
|
Da: |
But I do, sir.
|
P: |
You also see things the way we do not but they truely are. I need
help, my friend. I cannot permit that boy or any memeber of this vessel
to be sacrificed. The prime directive never intend to that.
|
Da: |
A problem, sir, is there. Although they learned the prime directive
from my mind, how do they(?) evaluate it? How do they reason?
What are their values? Remember the warning to us, sir?
|
P: |
Exactly how do I explain my refusing to obey their laws down there?
Not permitting the Crusher boy to be excuted. By so doing,
do endanger this vessel and more than thousand other(?) lives?
|
Da: |
Would you choose one life over one thousand, sir?
|
P: |
I refuse to let dignity(?) decide questions like that.
Did you learn anything about the relationship between that and the Edo?
Why they so certain it's a God?
|
Da: |
Any sufficiently advanced life form would appear to others to be
that, sir. Oh, when they're proving my thoughts, Captain, I could feel
that whatever they are now, they once existed in this dimension just
as we do, perhaps in same kind of flesh and blood form. Since then,
however, they've evolved considerably. Their present existence in
multi-dimensions no doubt has advantages as we do not understand.
|
P: |
Then in some earlier flesh and blood form, they might have shared our
kind of values?
|
Da: |
We know the Edo share them, sir.
|
P: |
Why would such an advanced thing oblige to protect the Edo?
|
Da: |
Perhaps the Edo are a child race by comparison. Possibly a race which
those life forms were planted here. Much as we now plant human colonies
on class M planets.
|
Cr: |
Having had(?) filled(?) my professional obligations regarding Commander
Data.
|
P: |
You now request permission to beam down to the planet. Permission
granted. You would accompany me while I trying to resolve this. And you
should know that whatever it costs, I will not allow them to excute
your son.
|
Cr: |
Thank you, sir.
|
P: |
Data, take command.
|
Da: |
Aye, sir.
