About us

 

"PIKAPOLONCA" which means "LADY BUG" in Slovenian language, is my name and I am the only Slovenian restaurant in Japan. I have been tirelessly serving jewels of Slovenian food to my customers since October 1st, 2001.

I,"PIKAPOLONCA" have been run by a Slovenian ecologist turned chef and his partner, a Japanese office lady turned waitress, promoter and mother of their children. Together they have been taking care of me, so that my service is always fresh and healthy. Furthermore, they have been hard working on a garden in a beautiful town of Miyama, known by the houses with thatched roofs. Without any hesitation, I am proud to say that the vegetables served on my tables are organically grown, without use of any chemicals; healthy and nutritious!


 

Igor Leiler, the chef, is cooking, baking, pickling and doing whatever my kitchen needs him to do.

Tomoe Leiler, the pillar of "PIKAPOLONCA, takes care of the guests and promotes me through all different SNS tools.

Igor Leiler studied math at Ljubljana (Slovenian capital) University and ecology at Kyoto University. Math helps him at calculating the profit (small numbers) and ecology has taught him how to balance damage to the environment with profit. Growing vegetables has filed him with respect for the hard working farmers, whose efforts are being constantly neglected (just think of all the food that is being thrown away daily!!!). Ecology and creativity, healthy living and putting smiles on peoples' faces are all realizable through cooking! A perfect job, if it were not for long working hours and miserable income…

Tomoe Leiler studied English and advertisement at a University in Kyoto, English has helped her when I entertain English speaking guests. Advertisement is on a daily menu, for whatever Igor prepares, without advertising it, dishes would end their journey at the very start, only as memory of creativity.

Business days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
For Lunch on Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays reservations are not required (recommended yes).
Lunch on Sundays and national holidays requires reservation (at least a day in advance).
Business hours are: 12:00~15:00 (L.O. 14:00)
Dinners require reservation (at least a day in advance).
Business hours are: 18:00~22:00

Pikapolonca is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. And sometimes it is closed also on other days!
