[ KIOTOSHI = ACT of DOWN HILL ]

Kiotoshi is an act of Yamadashi Festival. The first stage of the
Onbashira
Festival performed within two months.
Onbashira tree goes down a steep hill with many people riding on.
This act is one of the most dangerous event in the festival.
At the top of hill A crowd gathered around the Onbashira tree (L). Brass band plays and Kiyari Singer
cheer them up (R). Spectators await the Onbashira tree going down the hill quickly.
Onbashira tree is sliding down the hill with irregular balance, spectators enjoy with anxiety.

Apr. 4 and 5
The Onbashira tree dive into cold water of Miyagawa river which comes
from Mts. Yatsugadake following to The Kiotoshi .
The Onbasira tree is almost diving into the water. Many spectators on the bank
watch the scene with bated breath.
The Onbashira tree is pulling up to the oposit side,

May 3 and 4
Sato-biki Festival will held exactly one month after Down hill and Cross river events.
The Onbashira march on The Onbashira Way to the respective shrines.

[ Tate-Onbashira = Event of standing up The Logs ]
When the Onbashira tree finally arrive at the destination, it is slowly raised
to the vertical position. And it will be held as The Sacred
Pillar next six years.
It is said that The Fir Tree in the mountain bring down to the town, and become God.
The sacred columns are stood at the four corner of a shrine. There are four shrine
belonging to The Suwa Grand Shrine.
The Onbashira tree is raised up slowly with many peoples on.
