Strafford-upon-Avon

A statue of Shakespeare

How to go

<train>It takes two hours and fifteen minutes from Paddington.
<bus>It takes about three hours and ten minutes from Victoria Coach station.
<In my case>on my first trip : I used the coach ; on my second trip : I took the train from Paddington.

Many people associate Stratford-upon-Avon with Shakespeare. I wasn't an exeption. I wondered what the birthplace of Shakespeare, who had written such works as "Romeo and Juliet" and "Hamlet", would be like. Therefore, I chose Stratford-upon-Avon as my final destination, when I traveled to England alone some years ago.
I got on a bus from Victoria and arrived at Stratford-upon-Avon around 1:30, the bus being 30 minutes late.
"It looks like rain, but no matter, let's go and see the town.", I muttered to myself.

After I left my luggage, which weighed almost 27 kgs, at my B&B and gave a sigh of relief, I visited a Teady Bear museum. It was a small museum where there were a lot of teady bears. The addmission fee was about 2, so I thought it was a little bit expensive. However, if you like teady bears, you may enjoy a visit.

I took a bus named "Guide FRIDAY" to see around the town. Only if you pay 5.50, can you get on and off the bus takes you around famous sightseeing spots. Therefore, if you like a place, you can use your time as you like. On the other hand, if a place doesn't interst you, you can just visit for a short time or stay on the bus. I think the buses run freaquently. You can find such kinds of bus tours anywhere in England. I think that they are suitable, if you want to see the main sightseeing spots in a short time effectively.

When I arrived at Ann Hatherway's Cottage, it finaly began to rain. After that, it was raining off and on. Still, how beautiful the River Avon was(the second line)!

I planed to go back to Tokyo after staying at Heathrow for one night, so I was going to Heathrow via Oxford the next day. I dropped into a shop while waiting for a bus to Oxford and bought a bedcover because I mistook the price thinking it was one digit less than it actual was. It is a pretty red and blue quilted bedcover. I didn't recognize that I mistook the price until I showed my credit card and the shop assistant telephoned the credit card company to confirm it. I was upset hearing the conversation when she mentioned the price. However, it was too late for me to say, "I've changed my mind.". I left the shop being at a loss. At that time, I saw the proprieter of the B&B looking around. When he saw me, he ran towards me saying, "Oh!" happily. "Why does he look happy?", I wondered. He said, "Could you give me your room key?" I checked out with the key in my pocket. What a hasty type person I was! Once again, I felt at a loss.
