I would like to lend my support to the proposed project to extend the facility of the audio tour at the William Herschel Museum by providing a Japanese translation.

The Herschel Society of Japan has long-standing links with the museum and several of us including myself visit Bath on an almost annual basis since its opening in 1981. We would certainly welcome the opportunity to listen to the tour in Japanese. Not only would this be of great benefit to our own members but I also believe it would help Lo attract more Japanese scientific groups as well as general visitors to the Museum and give them a rewarding and Interesting experience.

In my opinion the present tour in English is excellent as it takes the visitor around the house but also explains some of the more technical aspects of the work of William and Caroline Herschel and their contribution to astronomy. The house where Herschel had worked and discovered the planet Uranus is one of the most Important astronomical sites anywhere in the world and it is undoubtedly one of Bath's prime heritage attractions. It has something to offer for all visitors, not just those with an interest in astronomy.

I really very much hope that you consider assisting the museum to realise this very worthwhile project (Faithfully Yours − Seiji KIMURA)

◎同上館長への送り状は次の通り。

5月13日付)Thank you very much for your letter of 8/5. Enclosed please find our letter to be sent to any organisation in your country to obtain funding for a Japanese tour at the Museum. I hope I have an opportunity in the near future of reading the script to be used for a Japanese tour. It will explain that the Herschel's 7-ft telescope on the ground floor reproduced by Mr Michael Tabb prior to the opening of the museum has a metal speculum recently ground by a Japanese amateur astronomer … (Seiji KIMURA)
