Manfred Memorial Moon Mission

Nation:    Luxembourg
Type:      Lunar fly-by, amateur communications
Operator:  LuxSpace
Lifetime:  8 days
Mass:      14 kg (payload only)
Frequency: 145.980 MHz
Mode:      JT65B
Launch:    17:59 UTC, 23.Oct.2014
Sites: Xichang Space Center (Songlin), Sichuan, China

LuxSpace's 4M mission or Manfred Memorial Moon Mission is a low-cost mission of opportunity
to perform a lunar flyby. The spacecraft, named in honour of the late OHB-System founder
Manfred Fuchs, will be part of the last stage of a lunar mission, due to be launched end of
october 2014. 4M is mounted in the equipment bay of the third stage of the CZ-3C/G2 (LM-3C/G2)
(Chang Zheng-3C , Long March-3C) launch vehicle.

The spacecraft features following equipment:

 * Primary power source: 28 high energy density, non-rechargeable cells, guaranteeing the
   nominal mission whilst providing 6W to the main payload and the experiments,
 * Secondary power source: 2 × 8 Triple layer solar cells and 4 × Li-Ion rechargeable cells,
 * On-board Computer, FM430 and interface board,
 * I/Q modulator,
 * RF power amplifier, providing a nominal 1.5 W into the antenna,
 * Quarter-wavelength antenna,
 * RAD experiment for radiation dose determination on the trajectory.

The trajectory will be a lunar flyby and return to Earth, with 90% chances of re-entry
in the atmosphere . The 10% remaining chances lead to a very interesting orbit.

The nominal mission duration is 8.17 days. The Lunar flyby will occur about 4.04 days.
During flyby, the distance to earth will be about 399636 km at most and the distance to
the Moon will be between 12000 and 24000 km depending on the final injection vector.

The 4M spacecraft will transmit continuously on 145.98 MHz with a 1.5 W power input at
antenna which is a simple monopole. The transmission will start 77.8 minutes after launch.
The amateur radio payload will transmit a JT65B signal, which can be decoded by radio amateurs.

Dear Mineo san,

... why not?

I think the problem might be the batteries.
Not sure if they last another week.
At the moment we have 13.8 - 13.9 volts.

4M flyby might have failed or it might be a first planned.

When I calculate using the updated TLE, 4M is not easily come back
to Earth by passing through the distant.

My antennas is poor ability, so it's difficult to capture the signal
from 4M.
