COMPASS-1 is in emergency mode since Sunday night. The battery voltage is very low and the satellite is rebooting every pass. The CW beacon is on in sunlight - but only in 8 minutes interval. We need telemetry - so much as possible. Could you help us please and listen to COMPASS on 437.275 MHz? Any reports are very appreciated. You can find a simple CW telemetry decoder on my website http://www.dk3wn.info/software.shtm (also mp3 or wav files are welcome). Please send your reports to compass1cubesat [at] googlemail.com or post via this list. Thank you very much in advance - on behalf the COMPASS-team Mike, DK3WN --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: COMPASS-1 From: Mike Rupprecht To: Mineo Wakita Date: Sat, 16 Aug 2008 15:27:46 +0200 Hi Mineo, We need your help !!! COMPASS-1 is in emergency mode and we cannot hear the beacon since 2 days. Could you help us please? Are you able to send DTMF tones (simply from loudspeaker via microphone) ? There is an good and free DTMF dialer to download here: http://www.polar-electric.com/DTMF/Index.html#Encoder Could you try this for us and send the following code please: ****14#164# Cf. ****14#200# heater off to -55 degr THIS IS THE VERY IMPORTANT COMMAND ****13#200# heater on to -55 degr ****16#170# critical batt threshold to 3.3V ****15#255# low batt threshold to max -> charge batteries The commands consist of 4 stars, two numbers, a hash, 3 numbers, and a hash. This commando should switch the internal heater off. I think that's the only way to save power. If COMPASS receive this sequence successfully you can hear a short confirmation beep. Uplink: 145.*** MHz FM Downlink: 437.275 MHz CW If you have any questions, please ask me. Thank you very much in advance !!! 73, Mike DK3WN http://homepage2.nifty.com/plasma/program/dtmf_dec.html (Japanese)Subject: COMPASS-1 DTMF status From: Mike Rupprecht To: Mineo Wakita Date: Sun, 17 Aug 2008 20:09:45 +0200 Hi Mineo, thank you very much for your effort. We now have 3 successfullycontacts. Always during a long period in full sunlight. 73, Mike -----Ursprungliche Nachricht----- Von: Mineo Wakita Gesendet: Sonntag, 17. August 2008 15:40 An: mike rupprecht Betreff: COMPASS-1 DTMF status Hello Mike, I made DTMF wav file and DTMF uplink cable. I had tried to uplink many a time, but we could not hear any signal from COMPASS-1. We will try again it. JE9PEL, Mineo Wakita --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Compass-1 recovery efforts Seemingly, the command was successful on 18Aug2008. COMPASS is in emergency mode and the beacon is transmitting every 8..9 minutes if the voltage is higher than 2.8 volts. The RX/TX seems to work with voltages down to 2.4 volt. This explains why COMPASS responds to commands but no beacon sends. If the batteries are charged and the voltage is higher than 3.7 volts (!) COMPASS will switch autonomous into NORMAL mode. Only in this mode the FM transmitter (437.405MHz) is on and the satellite can send packets on request. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: [amsat-bb] Re: COMPASS-1 beacon heard From: Mike Rupprecht Date: Fri, 22 Aug 2008 12:00:19 +0200 Hi all, A replay of the previous pass!
