Sapporo, 90 minutes flight from Tokyo Haneda or Narita,
is the capital city of the nothernmost prefecture, Hokkaido,
where the Winter Olympic Game was held in 1972.

Summer Intensive Butoh Workshops

  • WS1: August 3rd(Thu) - 7th(Mon) (5 days): Finished.

  • WS2: August 31st(Thu) - September 1,2,3(4 days)

Three basic points in our workshop: Butoh Dance Method by Itto/T.Kasai

1) Authentic Butoh beyond choreographed movements.
2) Learning Japanese Butoh through the old day's butoh videos, during the tea time.
* Tatsumi Hijikata, Kazuo Ohno, Sankaijuku, Youko Ashikawa (Hakutobo),
Hoppo-butoh-ha, Dairakudakan, Kobuzoku Altaic, GooSayTen, etc.

3) Your own Original Butoh based on your body-mind.

Our Butoh workshop is based on body-mind physical training with butoh techniques.
We have found that many participants learned imagery/imaginary exercises in Ohno studio in Yokohama, etc. or abroad, and
we will give at least 15-20 body-mind physical butoh exercises.
* We take physical conditions, age, etc. of each participant into consideration when practising.

We offer you the opportunities for ...

- transcending the overly modernized or Westernized Butoh by restroing its archaic factors.
- overcoming the ordinary ideas about the body/mind by experiencing Noguchi Taiso gymnastics, and body-mind liberation through butoh dancing.

  • WORKSHOP Schedules/ Lesson Fee

    • WS-1 (August.3rd - 7th): 40000 JP-YEN for a 5 day lesson.

    WS-2 (Aug.31 - Sep.3): 40000 JP-YEN for a 4 day lesson.

    * The total lesson time of each workshop is 22 hours .
    * The fee does not include accommodations, meals, tranportations.
    * Please pay in cash on the first day.
    * Refundable (per diem) only when the workshop is cancelled because of the organizer's reasons.


  • WORKSHOP VENUE

    Nijuyonken 3-4, Nishi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido prefecture, Japan
    1. Sapporo is the capital city of the northernmost Hokkaido prefecture. The New Chitose airport is the nearest airport to Sapporo. It is about a 90 minute flight from Tokyo Haneda airport or from Narita airport.
    2. JR train station is under the New Chitose airport. It is safe and convenient to Sapporo (about 40 minutes).
    3. From Sapporo JR station, take Nanboku-line subway (north-south line).
    4. Change to Tozai-line (east-west line) at the next subway station "Odori Koen" (Odori park) [N07].
    5. Get off at "Niju yonken" [T04] subway station of Tozai-line.
    6. Walk along the street for 10 minutes or so to a four-storied building. Check the map.
      * There is AEON convenient store at the first floor of the building.

  • APPLICATION

    • Let us know your backgrounds about butoh,dance,etc. with a brief note
    about what you expect in our workshop.
    *The maximum number of participant for each workshop is eight .

    We would like to offer these occasions to deepen your Butoh understanding one step further. Our training consists of the physically oriented exercises based on our butoh and body-mind psychotherapy activities.
