Handmade live steamers

A Happy New Year!

Scratch built 1Btender of 45mm gauge live steamer on my workbench

Aster's Light Mikado and Dr. Yellow Shinkansen that became three cars train

Rocket of 45mm gauge with oscillating engines and Shay of 45mm gauge with two cylinders small engine

Steam engines

I got the junk of old four cylinders steam engine, and restored it

Here is a small movie of four cylinder engine driving by air.

Donkey pumps built by my friends and two cylinders old engines by Saito (Japanese engine maker)

Building the "1B tender"

I decided to build "1B tender" that designed by Mr. Inoue. He released this model in 1975 on the magazine "Model and Radio".

I got the completed boiler for it, so built the engine of piston valve from brass board and pipe.

slender pipe is for valve cylinder with first hole of intake. You see the valve cylinder with four holes for intake and exhaust

This 12mm diameter pipe is engine cylinder and set under the valve cylinder as the photo.

Soldering pipes on the frames and make the steam path closing by side plates.

making main rod from 2mm thickness steel board, and set between piston rod and second driver wheel.

After the valve gear completed, air test carried out. the photo shows intake pipe and joint.

The upper view of engine unit, and setting the boiler on the chassis

Here is a small movie of driving the engine in air test.

Alcohol tank and burner built, and the view in smoke room seeing exhaust and blower nozzles.

Here is a small movie of driving the engine in steam test.

Building the cab with 0.8mm brass board, and first steam-up test on the track

1B tender running with nice sound on the endless track, and the top of cab built after running test.

Here are small movies of running 1B tender in 1 and 2 .

Simple mechanical

Next project was building original free loco of 45mm gauge with oscillating engine and small old boiler, so I started to make the gear box.

Chassis built with 0.8mm brass board and set the drivers, engine and boiler.

A little difficult process was building the cranks and side rods. this loco was named "Simple Mechanical"

Here is a small movie of driving in air test.

After building the cab, decorating with junk parts the Simple Mechanical completed, and run comically on the track.

Here are small movies of running Simple Mechanical on endless track and Porchside Line.

Steam railmotor car

The engine of steam railmotor car, built in two years ago (see A&B report in Oct 2006), was dismantled for repairing the piston and intake pipe.

The engine cylinder completed of repair, and test running in the west garden.

This steam railmoter car was designed by Mr. Inoue too. It is very funny locomotive with nice performance.

Here are small movies of running steam railmotor car in 1 and 2 .

Reports from the others

Mr. Hoshino on his old blue locomotive JNR 9600, and his newest project of 5inch Sentinel

Sentinel's inside mechanics with (from the left) two cylinder engine, water tank and vertical boiler.

Mr. Sudo is building 1B tender in the same time, the very beautiful chassis. The blue loco is Mr. Inoue's original 1B tender (but now 1A tender by later conversion).

The pistons and ash box for Mr. Sato's 5inch Washington under construction.

Mr. Shiwaku's garden railway named Inagi Light Railway in new years run.

The photos from Nihon Amagaeru Railway shows new caboose under construction.

Mr. Hoshino's UK report

Maxitrak booth in London Model Show and Sentinel in York Railway Museum

King George the Fifth in York Railway Museum and Thomas running in Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway

I got the two old live steamers through Mr. Hoshino, Bing LNWR 1910 and MR1920.

Short goodbye

Lady Madcap, Pink Shay, Popinjay and others in the garage waiting to service.

A&B Report will rest for a while and next issue may be in summer or autumn in this year because of my little travel in some month.
Bye...
