CD 2016 ORCHID ORC100058 The Temple Church Boys' Choir / Roger Sayer 1-4 Britten : Missa Brevis 5-8 Bennet : The Insect World 9 Brahms : Wie Melodien sieht es 10 Schubert : Du bist die Ruh 11 Trad. : The Salley Gardens 12 Trad. : O Waly, waly 13 Trad. : Locho Lomond 14 Gregg : Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner 15 Faure : Ave Verum Corpus 16 Thomas : Nunc dimittis 17-28 Britten: A Ceremony of Carols まず、ブックレットの写真が気に入った。礼拝服姿でスケボーで遊ぶ二人の少年、一見アンバランスに見えるが、現代の子供らしく、とにかく元気な姿が伝わる。 シューベルト、ブラームス、フォーレのクラシックの曲や伝承曲からブリテン、べネット、グレッグ、トーマスといった現代作曲家の作品を訓練された歌声で見事に歌っている。 べネットの「昆虫の世界」は３人の詩に作曲したユニゾンで歌われる子供の曲で愛らしい。 ブラームスとシューベルトの歌曲はジム・クレメンツがアカペラの合唱曲に編曲したもので、味わいのある演奏だ。 トーマスの“Nunc dimittis”は伴奏がジャズっぽくで面白い。 最後に「キャロルの祭典」が歌われるが、この曲は天使である必要はなく、普通の子供らしさも求められるが、この演奏のバランス感覚は見事である。 (by northend 2018/10/27 SAT up) |

SK89135)1999録音 Original score by Richard Rodley Bennett/Performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra/Conducted by john Harle Title track（１） sung by Andrew Johnson（treble） Choral Music(5,11,17,22)by John Tavener Performed by The Academy of Ancient Music Conducted by Paul Goodwin With the Temple Church Choir 1.Song Of Titus 2.Celebration 3.Cat Room 4.Burning The Library 5.The Christening 6.Fuchsia ＆Steerpike 7.The Sisters 8.Fuhsia ＆ Lord Groan 9.The Madness Of Lord Groan 10.The Death Of Swelter 11.The Earling 12.Keda 13.The Sisters In Prison 14.Freedom 15.In The Forest 16.Irma's Romance 17.The Carver's Ceremony 18.The Death Of Barquentine 19.The Red Room 20.Sarabande For The Sisters 21.Ceremony In The Rain 22.The Death Of Steerpike 23.Fuchsia 's Funeral 24.Farewell To Gormenghast 1999年製作の日本未公開のBBCテレビドラマ「ゴルメンガスト」のサントラCD。メルヴィン・ピークのファンタジー小説をBBCが巨額を投じて映像化したもので、主人公を演じるJonathan Rhys Meyersが巷でカルト的な人気を誇っているらしい。外盤でDVDが出ているが、私は映像本編は見ていない。物語は、架空の国に存在するゴルメンガスト城の継承者Titus少年の成長物語とのこと。 主題歌（3分41秒）を、ボーイズ・エア・クワイアもといセント・ポールのアンドリュー・ジョンソンが歌っている。透明で真っ直ぐに伸びていく確かな歌声で歌われるが、少し儚げでアンニュイな旋律や、曲全体が醸し出す雲間を飛んでいるような浮遊感が「スノーマン」の「Walking in the Air」を思わせる。（実際、文末の「ゴ～ルメ～ンガ～ストゥ～」というフレーズなどは、「I'm walking in the air～」の部分とメロディーが似ている気も。）ただしこちらの主題歌にはオケやブラスが伴奏として加わっているので、ロマンチックな雰囲気が増している。派手さはないが、印象的な曲。 サントラ全体は、目立たず、さりとて控えめすぎずといった、いわゆる縁の下の力持ち的な曲の集まりで、ヴォーン・ウィリアムスの交響曲にも似た線の細い弦やハープやピアノの起用が、ストイックな大人テイストのファンタジーロマンを想起させる。合唱入りの4曲は、ジョン・タヴァナーの作品。5曲目Christening（2分45秒）はトレブルの合唱で始まり、最初、普通の現代曲のように聞こえるのだが、続くハープをバックにした男声が低音の唱和もどきや微妙な不協和音などの神秘的な旋律が、いかにもロシア正教をベースとしているタヴァナーらしい。11曲目（1分58秒）は、歌うというよ、伴奏の弦とハープの旋律に載せてトレブルがほぼ同じ音だけをスタッカートで繰り返すというもの。１７曲目はまさに曲名の通り、管やドラが鳴る合間に超低音の男声ソロで儀式的な節が数秒発さられる。タヴァナー作品4つ目は、ブックレットには「22曲目」とあるが、恐らく「23曲目」の誤りだろう。控えめな弦をバックにシンプルなトレブルの唱和的な合唱が繰り返される。テンプルは、イギリス聖歌隊トップクラスのレベル。クリアだが響き過ぎず、ブレやアンバランスさのない落ち着いた歌声は、緻密な計算に基づいて作曲されただけにヘタな合唱団だったら不安定に聞こえてしまうタヴァナーの曲を着実に歌っている。(by Emu) 2002/03/03 up |

LOUGH Side 1: HEAR MY PRAYER (Part 1) Mendelssohn Side 2: HRECIT, EAR MY PRAYER (Conelusion) Aria- Oh, for the wings of a dove The Better Land の世界。1927年のレコードだとは思えないので、たぶん、復刻盤かなあ。1曲（じゃないか？）を片面に収めきれないで２面は続けて収録されている。音源はE. LOUGHのソロ・レコードやThe Better Land でも聴いているが、改めて聴くと、なんというか、クリアで人間臭が無い。ザリザリ（というほど大袈裟ではないが）の中から、何か澄み切ったものが聞こえてくるような気がした。CD復刻盤では平坦な音に聞こえたこともあったが、レコードでは、音の周囲の空気まで伝わってくる。レコードでしか伝わらない音があることを、この時代のソリストたちはその歌で教えてくれているんだなあと思った。 (by Hetsuji) 2003/11/09 up |
