So hot was the 2004 summer in Japan. Many weather records! One of them was the ealiest arrival of so-called Manatsubi or "midsummer days", when the temperature is 30 degrees or over, it was May 11th. This is the earliest in the history of Japanese weather observation. And 20th July it recorded 39.5℃ in Tokyo. This is also the highest record. And 14th August it recorded 40 mid summer days continued. This is the most long continued mid summer days record. And 30th September 70 mid summer days in a year was recorded. This is the most many mid summer days record in Japan. These are all new records of Japanese weather history in this year.

I had expected very hot summer this year so I was right. Because the number of swallowtail butterflies are seen many and the number of cabbage butterflies did not change. It was not so difficult to expect this summer weather comparing the last year or two years ago. The number of butterflies are as the following table. Though the number are small comparing with the last year, it is because that I don't go out from my house so many times comparing with the last year.

I hear the reason why it was so hot summer this year in Japan, the Tibet high atmospheric pressure came to so more far east than usual year. So Tibet high atmospheric pressure and the Pacific Ocean high atmospheric pressure are piled up above Japan. And we had many typhoons this year in Japan too. The number of typhoons that landed in are 10. This is also new record.
