This species has smaller fruit body compared to X. radicata.

   Pileus : 2-6 cm ,  

   Stem : 4-12 cm x 0.2-0.8 cm

  X. caussei R. Mre. which has cystidia-like cells on pileipellis has smaller spores, so this may be scientifically unrecorded one until now. Mr. M. Aoki described this in his mushroom book Nihon Kinoko Zuhan as Kotsuetake.
