From monthly paper "Hidankyo"-March

The Monument which shows the hypocenter of Atomic-Bombing in Nagasaki has been maintained by citizen power.

A plan for constructing a statue of goddess on the hypocenter instead of present Monument was released by Mayor of Nagasaki-city a year ago.

When the model of the statue that a mother wearing dress decorated with roses hugs a child was revealed, people who were against the plan became more active so as to take back it.

Meanwhile, The manicipal authorities stiffened its attitude and began to analyze collected signatures against the plan by means of computer.

Citizen organizations began to consider to ask for enacting an ordinance for inhabitant election.

In such a circumstance, Mayor finally withdrew the plan for removing the Monument.

Local paper made a headline, "The Monument has been maintained by citizen power".
