The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects and side

, and to decide adequate dose of morphine. Two hundred - ninety
outpatients were investigated by unique questionnaire for 24 hours
after operation from March 1989 through December 1998, which was
composed of seven categories,i.e.1)sickness,2)nausea,
3)vomiting,4)analgesia,5)itching, 6)urination, 7)the other troubles.
The patients were divided into two groups, one received 2mg dose
of morphine hydrochloride (n=64) and the other did 1mg (n=226).
About statistics, the results were tested by t-test between two
groups at a risk of 5 %. The results were as followed; 1)The average
duration of analgesia was 15.2}9.0 hour in 1mg group, beginning
time of urination was 9.8}5.6 hour. 2)In the same group, an incidence
of headache was 4% , feeling sickness was 15%, nausea was 14%
,vomiting was 4% , itching was 23% and difficulty on urination
was 44%. 3)With regard to comparison between two groups, there
were significant differences in the average duration of analgesia
and the incidence of nausea and vomiting . It was concluded that
adequate caudal morphine dose was 1mg (0.02mg/kg body weight)for
comfortable analgesia in case of outpatients' anal surgery.
