How to compose Japanese email on PC
of US Windows
Personal computer of US Windows can display Japanese font. So we
can open emails written in Japanese at US PCs.
But we felt difficulty to
compose email in Japanese because we don't know how to input Japanese font.
Here I like to introduce a method of sending Japanese email
from US PC.
1. To check Japanese
IME Installation
If you find "EN" icom at right bottom of
the screen like below, click "EN". Then if you see "JP" then the PC have
Japanese IME. Click "JP" icom. Then you can input Japanese words as you like.
2. Method of Installation of Japanese IME
If you cannot find "EN" icom, then you can
ask the shop to install Japanese IME. Installation shall be
under Administrator login and with CD-ROM of Windows
XP.
If you cannot do this, try the following method.
3. Method to
use Ajax IME
Ajax IME is IME that can get Japanese words on web
browser. It will work on Firefox and Internet Explorer but not on Safari and
Opera.
Access to http://ajaxime.chasen.org/ .
4. Method to use Translation Service
Conditions:
1. US Windows PC which can display Japanese font
connected to internet
2. You understand Japanese sentence for an extent.
3. You can use Japanese web mail such as Yahoo Japan mail etc
Method
If we have Japanese sentence on the screan of PC, we can use
it for email by copy and paste.
We use English-Japanese translation website
"Excite Translation" to get Japanese sentence.
Open "Excite Translation"
site (http://www.excite.co.jp/world/ ),
input mail sentence in English.
Then select 「英→日(English-Japanese)」, and click 「翻訳
(Translation)」 button. Please wait for a moment during
translation process.
When you get Japanese result, copy it to the email
compose box of web mail.
If you are not happy with the translation
result, you can get alternative words by the web dictionary on the same site.
You also can edit by the following hiragana katakana list by copy and paste.
