PlayingAlbums for macOS

  1. Introduction

We naturally listen to songs in the order as they appear in the album.

This application can make a playlist where the order of songs within an album is held.

You can separate discs in an album if you want. You can also separate songs if you think it is appropriate, for example, in a "Greatest Hits." These settings will be saved. They can be saved in iCloud and shared with other your devices (need internet connection). These settings are not compatible with those of a previous version.

Shuffled playlists can be shared with those in your other devices via iCloud. Playlists with the same name and almost same songs will be shared.

Playlists you made can be export in the iTunes format and can be imported into iTunes. This means that they can be used in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod where your music is synchronized to your Mac.

You can listen to your songs in this application. Playlist and songs you already heard will saved.

This application will try to search other albums in iTunes Store and Apple Music using artist's names in your playlists. No other information will be send via the internet.

  1. How to Use

A music library is analyzed automatically at launch. It is analyzed irregularly.

Select a playlist from iTunes in the left view of the application window. A playlist with the same songs will be ignored. PlayingAlbums can manage only songs, not music videos. A song with the same title, album title, and artist may be ignored.

If an album has multiple discs, you can decide whether discs should be separated or not. You can also separate songs in an album.

Click "Show Playlist" when all settings are completed. When a new playlist is created, the settings are automatically saved. You can save settings manually in the menu "Save Settings" in the "File."

You can export a favorite playlist. A music library xml file is needed to make it. In macOS Catalina 10.15, a music library xml file must be exported manually. In macOS Mojave or below, if you check the option "Share iTunes Library XML with other applications" of "Advanced Preferences" of iTunes Preferences, it is not needed to export your music library xml file manually. Export your favorite playlist to any place, and import it into iTunes or Music application in the menu "Import Playlist" of "Library" of "File."

You can play songs. Playlist and now playing songs will be saved automatically. A song to start can be changed if you want. There are two modes for playing, "PlayingAlbums itself" and "Play with iTunes." While playing songs in PlayingAlbums itself, songs not downloaded locally, Apple Music songs, or other old iTunes Store songs with DRM protection will be skipped. While playing with iTunes, all songs are able to be played. The playlist named "PlayingAlbums with AppleScript" is automatically created. PlayingAlbums adds songs in it, and iTunes plays them. If it does not work or takes a long time to create the playlist, you can reduce the song number in "PlayingAlbums with AppleScript" in "Preferences."
