Notes
Sweetmouth was a duo by Mark E. Nevin and Brian Kennedy who had
toured with Fairground Attraction. Released in August of '91,
this is the first and only album by Sweetmouth as The First of A Million Kisses was for Fairground Attraction.
Eight of the songs here were played in Fairground Attraction's '89 Japan tour and were considered to be the candidates for their uncompleted second album. This makes a little difficult to cope with this album for the fans who saw FA's concerts as they were sung by Eddi Reader at the time. Well dreams go on and on...
I came to know this album when I read a small review on the newspaper
by the very person who wrote the liner notes for The First of A Million Kisses. It went like this (translated by myself):
I am struck with the intelligent and romantic pop songs by Mark
E. Nevin, who was the main songwriter of now muchly-missed Fairground
Attraction.
The lyrics of the songs are mellow, poetic, very romantic and even more mature than those of Fairground Attraction. In Home to Hearache and The Waltz Continues, the words perfectly matches with the melody. Broken by a Breeze is simply beautiful which makes me dream Eddi singing the song again someday. Fear is the Enemy of Love is a typical Mark lyrics and tries to cheer up the listners.
Around the making of this album, Mark was involved in Morrissey's "Kill Uncle" album, producing and providing songs. Brian Kennedy released an album before and two after Sweetmouth and doing tours occasionally.
The album is now only available in the UK since it was long ago discontinued in Japan. You can purchase it at ChangesOne or other online cd stores based in the UK such as Dotmusic.
