Eddi Reader: "Mirmama"

This is Eddi Reader's1991 solo debut, following the demise of Fairground Attraction. And a lovely little thing it is, too. She has one of those warm, velvety brown voices that just wrap around you and keep you warm, and a way with lyrics that speak intelligently to the everyday. Even her covers take own her own coloring, whether it's John Prine's "Hello in There," Fred Neil's "Dolphins," or a particularly inspired version of the trad. favorite "The Blacksmith," which is forged in a whole modern lease on life that suits it well.
