Notes
Compiled as a tribute album for ex-Fairport Convention and one of the most prominent artists in British folk rock history, Richard Thompson. Seventeen artists contributed brand new songs to this set. Eddi provided Dimming of the Day, with Boo Hewerdine and Clive Gregson.
On Dimming of the Day(which was also covered by the brilliant Irish singer, Mary Black in her '91 album, Babes in the Wood), Eddi, Boo and Clive takes the lead by turns backed only with guitars played by the two male. The track was produced by Jon Kelly (the producer for Kate Bush, Damned and The Beautiful South).
The vocal part goes like this:
Boo
Boo & Eddi
Boo, Eddi & Clive
Eddi
Eddi, Boo & Clive
Clive
Clive, Eddi & Boo
Eddi's voice is prominent where Boo and/or Clive sing together with Eddi, which makes it a little difficlut to hear Clive's voice :)
This version, I would say, is excellent and even more impressive than the great rendition by Mary Black.
Christine Collister(track 3) started her career as the backup singer for Richard Thompson and once with Clive Gregson as Gregson & Collister.
Ivor Cutler(track 6) is the songwriter for Go and Sit Upon the Grass included on Joke Part2. Peter Blegvad(track 16) is a member of the avangarde rock band, Slapp Happy and the songwriter for Shirt and Comb which was in Patience of Angels single.
The title track(track 13) is hidden and not listed on the label, but it's a previously unreleased number by Richard and Linda Thompson.
I Misunderstood, which was covered by Dinosaur Jr. in another Richard Thompson tribute, Beat the Retreat, is another number which was also covered by Mary Black in her '97 album, Shine.
Victoria Williams' Reckless Kind is worth a mention too.
