Realistic Virtuality (Air Commuter) (2001)
Featuring an airliner as it penetrates turbulence,
the work submitted in "Realistic Virtuality" is my
tribute to the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001. It
symbolizes everyone's recurring nightmare in modern life, now
that we have all witnessed the destruction and terror of that
day. I have tried to remind audiences of the strange feelings
we likely experienced while watching the surreal horror on the
TV news; ultimately, reality and fiction became blurred -- and
then separate again -- as we struggled to distinguish the true-life
tragedy from images from the media and popular entertainment.
