poetry
When I was in university, I often liked to imagine that my father and I had a more dramatic relationship, like you often see in movies. This was one experiment of mine to visualize the end of one of those father-son relationships.
Unnamed II (1994)
son of a kindly father
a man of good nature; not one to
strike blindly
he met his death
a man of the cloth
not unlike my father; told me
at the funeral
that he was gone to a better place
(on the wings of angels)
i was not sad however my family bereaved
his mourning for seven days
no nights came in a week; we could not sleep
he is
to the cost of my grief
i did not cry he would not have wanted
it; a strong man
he could not accept the world except
in his own terms
he did
i am my fathers greatest covet.
