poetry

This poem came to me as I was walking through the university carpark, of all places. I don't where it came from, but it has never left my head. I would like this inscribed on my tombstone when I die, as I think it expresses all that I wanted to say in my poetry. In the original, cavern was actually caverns, but I think the last 's' should be left off, which is why I have removed it from the above.

Memoriam (1993)

Remaining, not dead.
The whispers of those left behind
seep through the curtain of our tears
into the cavern of the mind.
