DECEMBER 2002 - RE-STOCKING THE NURSERY



Replanting began during December. 25 Ginkgo, between 12 - 18 meters in height were felled to make way for the re-building of the nursery. The root systems were excavated and the soil dug over. Fertilizer was added to improve fertility. Replanting was carried out at two meter spacings.
This site was re-planted with Acer palmatum, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, multi-stemmed trees and standards.
The first picture below shows the site after the Ginkgo were felled (note Mount Tsukuba behind).
The second picture (take from a similar location) shows the site after replanting.


農場の植木は、姿の良い物が先に出荷され悪いものは残ってしまいます。
そのようにして生産性が落ちた畑は、悪いものを捨て再構築する必要があります。
上の写真は高さ15m前後のイチョウの木を根から掘り起こし処分しているところです。
その後土の活力を取り戻すために肥料を与え新しい植木を植えます。
下の写真は同じ場所にカツラやヤマモミジを植え付けているところです。
