Squamanita pearsonii Bas

Two Squamanita species, i.e.  S umbonata (カブラマツタケ) and S. odorata(ニオイオオタマシメジ)have been reported from Japan. This is the third Squamanita species and first report of S pearsonii from Japan.

S. pearsonii is rather rare species and reported from Europe several times. This specie is known parasitic to Cystoderma,  and I found this just beside a fruitbody of C. amianthinum(シワカラカサタケ) at Mt. Fuji.  So I suspect that this mushroom grew from mycelial mat of C amianthinum at underground.

Chlamydospore  existed  on surface of stem base.

    Spore : 6.8-8.8 x 3.9-4.7 mm          Pseudoamyloid    Chlamydospores from yellow parts of stem base : 9-13 x 9-11 mm
