V88 and M88

M. Landry sent me the following E-Mail on Feb 23, 1998.

The V88 and the M88 are two different models that were made in the same period of time. The V88 is more or less an updated ventures model guitar. These guitars were available with a reissue vibra-mute tail piece in a "sand modeled" type finish or the highly polished crome . They also were available with a mosley tail piece. The V88 had a body style very much like the ventures guitars with a carved top. I have a poster that features the V88, M88 and Semie holding theses guitars, I will try to color copy this poster and mail it to you. More informtion about the M88 Mosrite I have. It does not have a carved top it is rounded on the edges. The body shape is similar to that of a ventures model. This Mosrite does not have a pickgaurd. It has a rear control cover made of white plastic. The pickup covers and rings are also white. More information about M88 in general. This model was also made with an all maple neck and fingerboard similar to Fender guitars. They were available with all the tail pieces that the V88 were available with plus a non trem "sand modeled" tail piece that looks similar to a mosley, but with out the spoon (or handle)!! This tail piece is shown in the poster I mentioned above and you now really want to see. The M88's were available in some really neat colors like rasberry red, sand yellow (pictured in the poster!), and blue along with some black and white ones. The man that I bought my M88 from bought it from a guy who had about 20 or so M88s and V88s. He said most of the V88's were sunburst, white and black. He said when he traded his Mosrite 350 stereo for the black M88 that I ended up with he almost got a mapled necked sand yellow M88 instead, but it had the sand modeled non trem tail piece. I have never seen another M88 I believe it to be one of the rarer later model guitars that Semie built .I would really like to find another, it is a guitar that I record and play a lot. But, I do not dare to take it out of the house!
