November, 2002
[Purpose of the plan]
Recent population growth on the earth is inviting various crisis on our species; food, medicine, transport, etc.
The problems are getting more severely and complicated.
On the other hand, in Japan, baby birth ratio has been decreasing and increasing elderly people population at a very high speed. (Some countries in Europe have the same problem.)
How come the unbalance of our human species happens ?
Does human species have some fatal problem to live ?
How do other species think of the human species ? How about the ones out of the earth ? How about from ancient's/future's ?Now, we would like to suppose, "what do they think about the present human situation ?"
Can we find a new way to break through by special imagination with artworks ?
Key artist is "Sumi Takamasa", living in Fukuoka, Japan. He is very good at making strange species, for example, extincted species, confusional new animal between animal and plants, mixed animal which can be seen as daily furniture, and so on.
We will install his artworks and promote a kind of workshop. Audience will disguise to one of Sumi's animals and think about human species.
Sumi's artwork exhibition and "disguise" workshop
Sumi's works will install two rooms according to each charactor.
room A: Parallel World (draft)-- ancient extincted species, very small species, deep sea species, etc.room B: Imaginary World (draft)-- fantasic, mythological and/or Sumi's original imaginary speciesEach person will select one room to experience and choose one species.
He/She will disguise the species and make observasion of human's crisis.
Last, he/she will propose "idea" "criticism" "plan" , etc. to human species.

[POINTS of this plan]
-- Audience will disguish another species to consider our species from new view point.-- The exhibition rooms are not a science/natural history museum nor school. Art does not direct to only one right way, people will imagine freely and frankly here.
-- There will be many ways to express by audience; message by pen and paper, drawing and painting, paper craft and wood craft, by cloth or some food project, internet discussion (for example, people belong to same species talk each other.), comic, music, novel, etc. (within the budget)
-- Small pamphlet and/or internet website will be available after the project, about whole results including activities out of exhibition space.
