Mr. yasunaga
the director of Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (FAAM)

greetings

------------------------------

Ms. somporn rodboon

art investigater
assistant professor in the Chiangmai University, Thailand.

she directed this forum.
she had stayed Fukuoka for 3 months (since sep. 2000)
by the resident program at FAAM and researched for women artists in Japan.

------------------------------

Ms. tomotari mikako

born in fukuoka, Japan.
learned in chikuba univ., Japan.
stayed Costa Rica in 1990-1992, as Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers.
belongs to the Kyushu Institute of Design (a national college for art and technology).

since 1999, she has been involved in the nibutani-project in hokkaido (north area in Japan)
with the minority people, called AINU, the natives.

a large dam was built at the nibutani area by the Japanese government.

it destroyed the native's circumstance, culture and lives...
only two AINU people have opposed the dam building.

her sculpture has some role in the resistance activity.

* see her activities here (Japanese text only) *
(you can find her Japanese text in this forum, too)
* see english explanation about nibutani

* THE NIBUTANI DAM DECISION
iAction seeking reversal of a ruling confiscating rights, etc.
Judgment of the Sapporo District Court, Civil Division No. 3 issued March 27, 1997.)
translated by prof. Mark A. Levin, hawaii univ.

------------------------------

Ms. shimada yoshiko

born in tokyo, Japan.
learned in USA and Germany.
famous as works including gender and political message.

she wondered why people do not mind about ASIAN MEN ARTIST.

she has produced some video and visutal art works with BuBu,
who is a member of the damtype (performance group) and also solo performance artist.

in the video "made in occupied Japan",
shimada disguised in US army soldier and held BuBu as a prostitute.

shimada mentioned many things about gender problems,
I was very impressed her word "attitude".
