The Tervingi are a unit of auxilia palatina under the command of the second Master of the Soldiers in the Imperial Presence. Its shield pattern as shown in various manuscripts is as below:

"Tervingi" is a name associated with the Gothic peoples, as is Visi, which is the name of another auxilia palatina unit, under the command of the first Master of the Soldiers in the Imperial Presence. Its shield pattern is clearly related to that of the Visi, as the following patterns taken from the Paris manuscript should help to illustrate:
