Congratulations! Evgeni wins GPF!!

European men's champion and home favorite Yevgeny Plushenko skated an almost flawless free program on Saturday to win the grand prix final for the third time in the last four years.

Plushenko opened up his program with a trademark quadruple-triple-triple combination, then nailed eight more triple jumps, scoring six perfect 6.0 marks from the judges for artistic impression.

"I only skated better in practice," said the smiling 20-year-old. "No seriously, I think this was one of my best performances ever. I think getting six perfect marks is a record for me. Now, the task for me to get perfect marks for technical merit as well."

Russia's Evgeni Plushenko also was husbanding his resources, skipping the last jump of his planned quad toe-triple loop opening combination. He also was off-balance on his usually reliable triple lutz, but remained in first place.

"Absolutely, it's difficult," he said of the two-program day. "And it's the end of the season, everyone's tired."

"Actually, it was very difficult to skate to today, especially in the afternoon session," said the 20-year-old from St. Petersburg. "I was really short of breath and I don't know why. But I'm very happy with my free skate," he added.

"I did 100 per cent what I had planned to do tonight. I did two triple axels, I did a quad-triple-triple combination. I didn't press myself to the limit, I did everything I wanted to do. Tomorrow will be different."
