Free Skating marks:
Plushenko earned two 6.0s for artistry, and received plenty of 5.8s and 5.9s for his tribute to the 300th anniversary celebration of his native St. Petersburg, where he trains. "That was my best clean program,'' Plushenko said. He didn't do a second quad or the quad-triple-triple combination that he has completed in other competitions this season. "For here, it was enough. Of course, in the future I would have to do the quad combination and second quad,'' Plushenko said. The 2001 world champion has focused more on his presentation this season, working with a choreographer from the famed Kirov ballet. "We are really developing this side,'' he said. "We are from a balletic country and we are working on music and I feel I can interpret it very well.'' "Last year was hard for me (he missed two major championships through injury) so it was a relief to come here and win," said Plushenko, whose bitter rival and compatriot Alexei Yagudin, the Olympic and world champion, did not defend his title in Malmo. "I was fighting with myself and I succeeded." "I really felt the music and I can interpret it very well," added Plushenko, who hugged his coach Alexei Mishin after leaving the ice. "I was skating for pleasure." "In the past few days I lost my form a bit. What I did here was enough for me to win," he said. "It will be different at the world championships (in Washington DC in March) though." "I had trouble in the warm-up, I missed the flip and loop. But I was able to pull myself together in the competition and I hit them both. That was very positive. I was fighting with myself, and I succeeded", Plushenko said. "What I did was enough for today, but in the future I'll need to do the quad-triple-triple combination and the second quad, of course." 2003年1月24日 Short Program marks:
The quad was high, the landing strong. But when Evgeni Plushenko dug in his toepick for a combination, he said he hit a hole in the ice. An intended triple became a single. Still, Plushenko has sacrificed none of his youthful flamboyance. After landing his triple lutz, he held up three fingers for the cameras: "Count 'em." The 20-year-old blamed the error on a small hole in the ice. ''It was very unexpected,'' he said. ''Usually these holes should be filled with ice and then resurfaced. It happens sometimes, but rarely.'' ''I'm pleased with the rest of my programme. I did everything else well,'' he added. "There was a little hole in the ice, it was very unexpected", Plushenko explained. "The quad toe itself was a good jump. I'm pleased with the rest of my program, I did everything else well."
