Science City .1-7, Hikaridai,
Seika-cho, Soraku-county,
Kyoto,
Keiichi Ikemizu has created a gigantic,
geometric form (30m x 60m) on top of the pyramidal mound
at the eastern end of the parking lot of the Keihanna Plaza,Kansai
Science City, Kyoto Prefecture.
Elevated 20 meters from the ground, it cannot
be seen unless you climb the steps on the slope of the mound,
or go up to the seventh floor or higher in the Keihanna
Plaza Building.
In the early twentieth century, Mondrian
sought to depict thoroughly simplified images on canvas.
Those images seem to reflect his concepts of
an ideal society or Utopia in the modern world.
Formed with multiple squares painted in red,
blue, yellow and white,
this Mondrian-like creation of Ikemizu may
confront you with a question:
Is Mondrian's ideal or Utopia still effective
today?
