RETINAL ATROPHY （Retinal Degeneration）

Retinal atrophy is a disease that causes blindness. It develops due to various causes such as hereditary, inflammatory, nutritional, toxic and aging.
As a symptom, in the early stages, the vision in low light is often poor, and movement becomes cautious. However, in a room where you are used to, you can act as usual without changing the arrangement of furniture, so finding symptoms is difficult without a fundus examination.
In addition to general medicines, our hospital also uses Chinese herbs and ozone therapy together. Furthermore, in the 2015 case presentation, it was reported that a dog with no visual acuity recovered its eyesight after performing regenerative medicine. The number of blood vessels extending from the optic nerve (circular white part) increased from 1 to 3.
Besides the usual treatment, this pup was treated using Chinese herbs and ozone gas once a month. As for other improved symptoms, there was no light reflex (reaction to miosis when applying light to the eyes ) before the start of treatment, but after the treatment, reflexes began to appear. As far as this fundus finding is seen, it does not seem that it has visual acuity, but due to treatments such as supplements, Chinese herbal medicines, ozone autologous blood therapy (administering ozone gas mixed with blood into blood), only in bright places that its eyesight was kept for more than 20 months.


Common breeds include Irish Setter, Collie, Cocker Spaniel, Miniature Schnauzer, Miniature Daschund and Labrador retriever.
