International Association for Landscape Ecology world congress was held in Darwin, NT, Austaralia. I made a poster presentation at the congress(photos of venue and poster). We stayed Darwin City Youth Hostel during staying Darwin.
After the congress, my colleague and I took part in an 1 day Kakadu National Park tour. Kakadu National Park is a huge park and a World Helitage(map).
Firstly we visited Ubirr where large rocks were lying. We observed Aboriginal Rock Paints and wallabys on the rocks. We climbed on a large rock(see photo). The view from the rock was very exciting. One hand was a huge wetland(photo), and the other hand was a veiw of huge rocks and tropical seasonal forest(photo). We felt "continent" and the "tropics" very much.
We joined Yellow Water Cruise in the afternoon(see photo). We enjoyed bird and wild crocodile watching on a boat.
The last day of my staying Darwin, I walked around Darwin City. I visited parks, the George Brown Darwin Botanical Garden, NT Museum and Arts Gallary, and beach. It was very hot day but I enjoyed also bird watching in Darwin very much.
We returned to Japan by way of Sydney Airport. Sydney is winter in July, so it was cold and we did not go out from the airport.
(The bird watching report in Japanese is here.
And the birds list during staying Austaralia is here.)
