キーボードプレイヤー。'80年代末に JAGATARA、MUTEBEAT という二つの
バンドに参加して以来、ジャンルやポジションにこだわらない数多くの個性ある
アーティスト達と共演し、その個性をより良く引き出す演奏をしてきた。
さまざまな音楽体験（特にオーセンティックなレゲエ）に裏付けられた、絶妙な
タイミングと音数の少なさを特徴とする演奏はシンガーソングライターからロック
バンド、クラブミュージックからアバンギャルドまで、幅広い守備範囲を持つ。
しかし大切なことは、生楽器一台の伴奏であろうとエレクトロニックな演奏で
あろうと「同じこと」を伝えられる、音楽的な気持ちの確かさだと思っている。 |
| ●ソロ |
サポート活動と並行して、演奏からレコ−ディングまですべてを一人で行なう
「エマーソン北村ソロ」を続けている。多彩なサポートの演奏とは対照的に、
リズムボックスだけを伴奏に古いオルガン（足鍵盤つき）で好きな曲を弾いている
だけ、という訥々としたスタイルが特徴。しかしそのエフェクトを一切排除した
サウンドや、全国のカフェから大フェスまでを普段のテンションのままで出没する
ライブの姿勢からは、エマーソンのコアの部分が垣間見える。

子供時代エレクトーン教室に通う。パラフレーズというバンドで上京後、
さまざまなバンドに参加。またライブハウスの PA やインディーレーベルの
レコーディングエンジニア、来日アーティストのローディーなども経験し、
図らずもDIY な音楽の作り方を身につける。1989年ニュージャージーで
ジャッキー・ミットーにもらったサインの言葉「Musical Happiness」が
自分の座右の銘でもある。

Keyboard player Emerson Kitamura started his carrier in the late 1980's.
Joining two Japanese bands, JAGATARA, led by emotional vocalist and poet Edo Akemi, and one of the first Japanese reggae/dub band MUTE BEAT, he extended his musical point of view: from modern singer songwriter music to grungy rock band, authentic rocksteady to avant-garde. The same can be said on his playing style: one night he plays an acoustic instrument accompanying a singer, on the other night he plays completely electronic. But he thinks whatever the style is, the feeling he is trying to represent is always the same, "musical happiness". |
| ●solo work |
His solo work is a completely one man project: he is a performer, a recording engineer, and a van driver… etc. Mainly he plays cheap electric organ with an old rhythm box. However it is much influenced by Jackie Mittoo's 'reggae versions' and many other organ instrument music, it's not jazzy or 'club-music' like. He thinks this is a kind of renovation of 'Home Organ Music' in the 1950's into our decade, with no computer programming. |
