Jackie was an amazing dog. She wasn't much to look at but she was so beautiful. I remember watching her one day, a large dog who had broken his chain and escaped from his owner's garden ran aggressively to her. She did nothing but everything that the dog needed to be shown to make him see she was no threat. As he got close he slowed up and curved away from Jackie as she quietly sniffed and acted as if the big dog was not there. Jackie could avoid conflict with ANY dog. Sometimes I wonder how us bumbling humans find it so easy to make dogs who are natural masters of conflict avoidance, aggressive to one and other!
Later after seeing Turid Rugaas and studying her calming signals in dogs, I realised Jackie was doing so many of them.

Jackies lessons for us all:

** Keep leads loose and let your dog communicate.
** Don't force dogs to be too close especially on the first meeting. How would you like to be forced to hug complete strangers!!
** Don't treat dogs as humans, respect them for being dogs, wonderful dogs.

The dream is over.

Please, please, please, take good care of your dogs. Don't let them roam and unless you want to breed from them, get them spayed before accidents happen. Jackie and Whitey were truely wonderful dogs who did suffer . Dogs are family members for life, we must take responsibility for them through good and hard times. Don't abandon animals, there are always other options.
