PhotoView v1.2 released
PhotoView is a simple picture display program in Java
that helps to navigate and to delete pictures under a
directory.
Features:
- Display a full-size picture.
- Display a fitted-size picture.
- Delete pictures.
- Display thumbnails with paths in tree-view.
- Display thumbnails in panel-view.
- Mark pictures deleted.
- Unmark pictures deleted.
- Deleted marked pictures.
Pictures can be "marked" as "deleted" such that icons are drawn with
a cross. These pictures can be fully deleted or removed with "Delete
Marked" or recover with "Unmark Deleted." These are preferred over
"Delete" command.
Enhancements:
- Added short-cuts to ease of use.
- Enlarged default panel-view size.
- Reversed "delete" menu item with "mark/unmark deleted" item in
the pop-up menu to lower the risk of mis-operation.
Bug fixes:
- Fixed redrawing problems in various places.
Known issues:
- "Delete" operation is slow.
When lots of pictures are displayed in the tree view,
PhotoView does not response for a while if a picture is deleted.
This is due to Java Swing Tree implementation.
Use "Mark Deleted" and "Delete Marked" functionalities.
- Tree-view does not display icons appropriately
on Windows platforms.

PhotoView will also run on other Windows and Linux with Java 1.6 or higher.
How to Run:
Unzip the distribution file and execute the program within the folder.
The "lib" folder contains libraries and their source code.
They are required to run the application.
On UNIX/Windows:
Advanced use for Windows users and regular way for UNIX users.
- % java -jar PhotoView-v1.2.jar
- This will serve many of use cases.
- % java -Xmx512M -jar PhotoView-v1.2.jar
- In order to display large size pictures, more memory
needs to be allocated.
You can change memory size for
Java provided by Sun Microsystems
in the following way.
Use
-Xmx[n]
option to increase usable memory
size where [n] indicates the size of memory.
No suffix indicates bytes, k and K do kilo-bytes,
m and M do mega-bytes, and g and G do giga-bytes.
