Below are frequently asked questions and answers (FAQ) about the Yurigaoka Catholic Church Community.



Q. Where is the church located?

A. It is located about 30 minutes from downtown Tokyo but it resides in Kawasaki City. The church is located within a 12 minute walk from either Odakyu Shin-yurigaoka or Odakyu Yurigaoka train stations.



Q. Is there car parking near the church?

A. Yes, but it is rather limited.



Q. Who is the priest?

A. Father Jean Guy Dupont, a Canadian, (M.E.Q),  who has been pastor of the church for 8 years. He has resided in Japan for 32 years. Father Dupont is fluent in French, English and Japanese.



Q. In what language are the masses held?

A. The masses are held only in Japanese.



Q. How many parishioners are there?

A. The parish is composed of 560 families plus individuals for a total of about 1000 parishoners.



Q. What is the international make-up of the parishioners?

A. About 97% are Japanese with remaining 3 % being from a number of countries. Non-Japanese speakers are welcome but because the masses are held in Japanese comprehending the mass would be difficult without understanding conversational Japanese. Weekly misselets are available in English for each Sunday service.



Q. How often are the masses held?

A. For the Sunday service, Saturday evening at 7:00 pm, Sunday morning at 10:00 am.



Q. Does the church sponsor any social or charity events?

A. Once a month after the 3rd Sunday mass the church serves coffee in the church basement for parishioners. The church also holds an annual bazaar at the end of April. A charity concert is held every year on Nov. 23.



Q. What other activities are held or organized by church members?

A. There are number of clubs meeting at the church such as Igo, Ikebana, Rosary, etc.



Q. Where is the nearest Catholic Church holding mass in English?

A. St. Ignatius Church (Tel. 03-3263-4584) located adjacent to the Sofia University Campus in Yotsuya (Tokyo). Other church located in Kanagawa prefecture and near the Odakyu train are Yamato Church (Tel. 0462-74-1178) and Fujisawa Church (Tel. 0466-27-2787).
